Tech tip
Do not use sealant (including Teflon tape or plumbers pipe dope) on
the threads of temperature or pressure senders. This will not allow the
sender to properly ground itself to the engine and will cause the temperature
to register high and the pressure to register low. This does not include
floating ground senders which include a second terminal specifically for
grounding. |
GENERAL VDO COMPATIBLE QUESTIONS:
Is wiring kit included with electrical gauges?
Answer: No, please order separately
Can I use VDO gauges with another manufacturer’s sender?
Answer: No, you must use a VDO gauge with a VDO sender

SPEEDOMETER GAUGE QUESTIONS:
Will VDO Speedo work with my Electrical controlled Transmission?
Answer: Yes, VDO Speedo’s will work with electrical transmissions which
include OE VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensors).
Which Hall Effect Speed Sender should I use?
Answer:
GM: TH350, TH400, Early 700R4 use VDO part # 340-011
Ford: C-4 use 340-013
Chrysler: 727 if threaded 340-011, if pushed in call for Special
Adapter

TACHOMETER GAUGE QUESTIONS:
Do I need a tach adapter to make the tach work with a MSD ignition?
Answer: No
Will VDO tachs work with points ignition or Pertronix?
Answer: Yes, with diode in line on the signal lead. Instructions are
as follows:
Purchase a diode #1N4005 from a local electronics store such as Radio
Shack or Circuit City. Cut both ends of the diode so each is approximately
3/4” long. Crimp 1/4” female spade connector on the end of the diode with
the silver band. Crimp butt-splice connector on the other end of the diode.
Crimp the opposite end of butt-splice connector to the wire connected to
the ignition signal source. Connect 1/4” female spade connector used in
#3 above to terminal #4 on the back of the tachometer. Connect a ground
(-) wire to terminal #3. Connect a switched 12-volt power wire to terminal
#2. Set switches for appropriate amount of cylinders. |

FUEL GAUGE QUESTIONS:
My fuel gauge reads backwards?
Answer: Float arm installed backwards
Do you have a Fuel Gauge that matches my OE Sender?
Answer: Yes, we have the following:
Early GM pre-1965, use 0-30 ohm. Note: Some trucks through 1968 use
0-30 ohm
Late GM use 0-90 ohm
Early Ford use 73-10 sender
Late Ford use 16-158 sender VW (Beetle Type I) use 73-10 sender (not
the same as Ford) |
