    Frequently Asked Questions
What thread should I use for a Volkswagen Type 1 engine?
For a Type-I engine your pressure sender threads should be 10x1K

Do I need a Dual Station or a Single Station sender?
For automotive applications, a single station sender is sufficient. If you are using your gauges in a marine application, and would like to mount two identical gauges in two areas of your boat, you would need to purchase a dual station sender.

What is the difference between standard ground and floating ground?
In automotive applications, standard ground is normally adequate. Because marine applications often include engines mounted in fiberglass, wood, etc, there is sometimes nowhere to externally ground the sender. For this reason, "floating ground" senders include an additional terminal on the sender to which the ground wire can be attached.

What sender should I order for my vehicle? I'm not sure what thread size I need.
If you're not sure what your thread size is, we recommend you order an 1/8" NPT sender, and either metric (European and Asian cars) or standard (American cars) bushing kit.

Should I use sealant or Teflon tape on the threads of my sender?
Do not use sealant (including Teflon tape or plumbers pipe dope) on the threads of temperature or pressure senders. This will not allow the sender to properly ground itself to the engine and will cause the temperature to register high and the pressure to register low. This does not include floating ground senders which include a second terminal specifically for grounding.

I don't know which sender I need for my vehicle, can you help me select the right one?
The easiest way to determine the correct sender thread size is to check reference sources for your vehicle, including the internet, service manuals, and the parts department of a local dealer for your type of vehicle. Although we don't have a master list of which thread size goes with which vehicle, we will try to help you figure it out if you can't find the answer elsewhere. There are also sender kits available with adapter bushings which fit many poplular sizes.
